Dogs drop tough opener to #3 Davison

renicker-oxfordThe #4 ranked Bulldogs fell 45-27 at Davison last night in the season opening match.

Davison came out strong with major decision and technical fall victories from #1 ranked returning state champ Auggie Facundo and #2 ranked Deven Perez at 119 and 125, but the Dogs answered back as senior captain Jackson Renicker scored a fall followed by a hard fought 7-1 decision by Lee Grabowski at 135 to tie the dual 9-9.

Davison re-gained control with three straight wins at 140, 145, and 152 before junior Jake Soop brought the Bulldogs back into the match with a fall at 160lbs.

Davison pins at 171 and 189 made things appear to be out of reach, but senior captains Luke Ready and Eric Conquest delivered at 215 and 285 with back to back first period pins, pulling the Dogs within 6 going into the final two bouts.

Freshman Ben Manly was leading early in a back and forth match in his debut, but was caught and pinned in the 3rd period, sealing the win for Davison.

The Dogs are back in action this Saturday at the Grandville Challenge where they will see #5 Grandville and #8 Bay City Western, among other teams.
